Privacy Policy
Momentide is an iPhone and iPad app for mantras, sound sessions and moon rituals, available in the United States and Canada. This policy explains what the app collects, why, where it is stored, who helps us run it, and how you can get a copy of your data or delete it. We wrote it to match what the app actually does. It is also our notice at collection under California law and our consumer health data privacy policy under Washington and Nevada law (see Consumer health data).
Third-party AI services
Some features are written by an AI: Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, PBC (USA). This covers your daily mantra, calendar mantras, reflections on ritual notes, the Worry to Tomorrow list, ritual recipes, and session picks from what you type. When you use these features you are interacting with an AI, not a person, and AI-written text is marked as such in the app.
- Nothing is sent before you agree. The first time you use an AI feature, the app asks for your permission and tells you the text goes to Anthropic. You can turn AI off at any time in Profile → AI writing (Anthropic Claude); the rest of the app keeps working.
- What is sent: only the text needed for that one reply, such as the words you chose for your mantra, what you typed or said (as text), the moon phase and time of day. From your calendar, only an event's title and start time are sent. Audio recordings are never sent to Anthropic.
- What is not sent: your name, email address, account ID or location. Requests go through our server, so Anthropic does not see your device or IP address.
- Anthropic processes this text in the United States on our behalf, only to write the reply. Under Anthropic's commercial terms it is not used to train AI models and is kept only for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- If something you say or write suggests you may be in crisis or thinking about self-harm, the app does not send it to the AI. It shows calm support and helpline numbers instead (988 in the United States and Canada), and that entry is never used in reports or shareable cards.
Who we are
Momentide is published by its independent developer ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach our privacy officer (the person in charge of the protection of personal information) at momentideapp@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
We collect information from you directly (what you enter or record in the app), from your device (with the permissions you grant), and from Apple, Google and RevenueCat when you sign in or subscribe.
| Information | What exactly | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address; your name if Sign in with Apple or Google shares it (Apple may give a private relay address); a sign-in identifier from Apple or Google; for Sign in with Apple, a token we keep only so we can revoke Apple access when you delete your account. | To create your account and sign you in on your devices. |
| Profile and settings | Display name, app language, time zone, which practices you turned on, the date you accepted AI, the words and intention for your mantras, your morning time, ritual settings. | To run the app the way you set it up. |
| Country (on your device only) | Read from your phone's Region setting each time the app starts. We don't ask for it and don't store it on our servers. | To show the right crisis helplines (988 in the United States and Canada) and to apply the minimum age for your country. |
| Your moments | Each mantra, session and ritual entry: text you write, transcripts of your voice notes, AI replies, mood before and after, "landed / not today" marks, experiment results. Each entry is tagged with date, hour, weekday, time zone, moon phase, season and, if you allow location, the weather. | This is the app's content. Insights and experiments are built from it, for you only. |
| Voice recordings | Ritual voice notes, Voice Capsule messages and mantras in your own voice, as audio files. | So you can play them back. They are stored in a private storage area only your account can read. |
| Saved recipes | Ritual recipes you create or add from a shared link. | So they are there next time. Sharing a recipe puts the recipe itself (not your name or account) inside the link. |
| Approximate location (optional) | Coarse location, rounded to about 10 km on your device before it is sent. | Only to look up the current weather for an entry. We send the rounded coordinates to OpenWeather and store only the result (for example "rain, 57°F, day"), never the coordinates. |
| Calendar (optional) | Read on your device. For an event you choose, its title and start time. | To write a short mantra 10 minutes before that event. We do not copy your calendar to our servers. The mantra we write is saved as one of your moments. |
| Notifications (optional) | Device push token, time zone, the reminders you set (time, title, text). | To send reminders you asked for, such as the morning mantra or the moon phases, even when the app is closed. |
| Purchases | Whether you have Pro, which plan, renewal and expiry dates, store and transaction references. We never see your card or payment details; Apple handles payment. | To unlock Pro on your account and restore it on a new device. |
| Security data | IP address and request logs kept by our hosting provider; per-account usage counters. | To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and set fair daily limits for AI features. |
| Crash reports | When the app crashes or hits an error: the error message and where in the code it happened, device model, iOS version, app version and the app screen that was open. No account ID, email, name, IP address, text you typed or recordings. | To find and fix crashes. Sent to Sentry (below). |
We use this information only for the purposes in the table. We do not use it for any other purpose without asking you first.
Sensitive information and your consent
Some of what you put in Momentide can say something about your mood or wellbeing: mood ratings, your written and spoken notes, voice recordings, and the fact that an entry was flagged as a possible crisis. We treat all of this as sensitive information (and, where the law uses the term, consumer health data).
- Separate, express consent. The app asks for your consent to this information in its own step, separate from the Terms and from the AI permission. You can say no.
- If you say no, the app does not collect mood ratings, voice recordings or notes, and the features that depend on them stay off. If an entry sounds like a crisis, the app still shows helplines but does not store the entry. You can still use the features that don't need them, and you can change your mind at any time in Profile.
- Withdrawing consent stops new collection right away. What you already saved stays until you delete it or your account; you can delete it at any time.
- We use sensitive information only to provide the features you use. We do not use it to infer characteristics about you, for advertising, or to train AI models, and we never sell it.
Microphone and speech recognition
The microphone is used only while you are recording. Your speech is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, on your iPhone when your language supports it; otherwise Apple processes it under Apple's Privacy Policy, as the iOS permission dialog explains. You can always type instead.
What we don't do
- No advertising and no ad networks.
- We do not sell personal information and do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined in California law. We have not done so in the past 12 months.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
- No third-party analytics SDKs. The one third-party SDK that sends data from the app is Sentry, for crash reports only, as described in this policy.
- Your content is not used to train AI models.
- Momentide does not read Apple Health data.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers who process information on our behalf, under contracts that allow them to use it only to provide their service to us and require them to protect it:
| Provider | What they do | Information involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase, Inc. (USA) | Hosting, database, sign-in, file storage and server functions. Region: East US (North Virginia). | All account information and content listed above. |
| Anthropic, PBC (USA) | AI writing (Claude), only after your consent. | Text needed for one reply, as described above. |
| RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) | Subscription management. | Your app account ID, purchase and subscription status, basic device and store information. |
| Functional Software, Inc. d/b/a Sentry (USA) | Crash reporting. | Crash reports as described above, not linked to your account. |
| Apple Inc. (USA) | Sign in with Apple, payments, push notifications, speech recognition. | As needed for each service. |
| Google LLC (USA) | Sign in with Google, if you choose it. | Sign-in identifier, email and name. |
| OpenWeather Ltd (United Kingdom) | Weather lookup, only if you allow location. | Rounded coordinates, sent from our server without any account information. |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of the app, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
Where your information is stored
Your account and everything you save in the app are stored on Supabase servers in the United States (East US, North Virginia). AI requests are processed by Anthropic in the United States. Weather lookups send only rounded coordinates to OpenWeather in the United Kingdom. Crash reports are stored by Sentry in the United States.
If you live in Canada: your information is stored and processed outside Canada, mainly in the United States. While it is there it is protected by our contracts with these providers, but it is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities. Before choosing each provider, we assessed how it protects personal information.
How long we keep information
- Your account, moments, recordings and settings: until you delete them or delete your account. On the free plan the app shows the last 30 days; older entries stay stored so they are there if you upgrade, and you can delete any entry at any time.
- Location: coordinates are not stored at all.
- AI requests: we keep the reply you see as part of your moment. Anthropic keeps request data only for a limited period as described above.
- Usage counters: about two days. Hosting security logs: a short period set by our hosting provider.
- Crash reports: up to 90 days, then deleted automatically by Sentry.
- Push tokens: until you delete your account or Apple reports the token as no longer valid.
- Purchase records we must keep by law may be retained after account deletion, for as long as that law requires.
Delete your account or get a copy
Delete: in the app, go to Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, moments, recordings, recipes, reminders and push tokens, revokes Momentide's Sign in with Apple access and deletes your customer record at RevenueCat. It cannot be undone. You can also delete a single entry or recording from the app at any time.
Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions, ideally before you delete your account.
Get a copy: email momentideapp@gmail.com from the address on your account. We will send your information in a structured, commonly used format (JSON, with your recordings as audio files) within 30 days.
Your privacy rights
To use any of the rights below, email momentideapp@gmail.com from the address on your account. We confirm it is you by replying to that address; we do not ask for more information than we need. We reply within 30 days (we will tell you if we need more time, where the law allows it). There is no charge, and we will not treat you differently for using your rights.
United States
Depending on your state (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and other states with privacy laws), you can:
- know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and get a copy of it in a portable format;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete your information;
- opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising and profiling. We do none of these, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we treat browser signals such as Global Privacy Control accordingly;
- limit the use of sensitive personal information. We already use it only to provide the app you asked for;
- withdraw consent you gave for sensitive information or consumer health data;
- use an authorized agent. We may ask the agent for your signed permission and ask you to confirm the request from your account email;
- appeal if we decline your request: reply to our answer with "Appeal" in the subject and we will reply within 45 days. If you are still not satisfied, you can contact your state attorney general.
In the past 12 months we collected the categories in the table above: identifiers (email, account ID), customer records, commercial information (subscription status), sensitive personal information (mood ratings and notes that may reveal wellbeing, voice recordings), approximate location (not stored), and inferences only in the sense of your own insights and experiment results, which only you see. We disclosed them only to the service providers listed above, for the purposes listed above.
Canada
Under PIPEDA and provincial privacy laws, including Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, you can:
- access your personal information and ask how it has been used and to whom it has been disclosed;
- correct it if it is inaccurate or incomplete;
- withdraw your consent, subject to legal or contractual limits, and we will tell you what that means for the app;
- ask us to stop disseminating it or to delete it;
- in Quebec, receive the personal information you gave us in a structured, commonly used technological format, including by transfer to another organization.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or in Quebec to the Commission d'accès à l'information, or to the privacy commissioner of your province.
Consumer health data (Washington, Nevada and other states)
This section is our consumer health data privacy policy under Washington's My Health My Data Act, Nevada law and similar laws.
- What we collect: mood ratings before and after sessions, what you write or say in ritual entries and its transcripts, voice recordings, and a flag on an entry that suggested a possible crisis.
- Where it comes from: only from you, in the app.
- Why: to show your entries back to you, to build your own insights and experiments, to write AI replies if you turned AI on, and to show helplines when an entry suggests a crisis.
- Who receives it: Supabase (storage), and Anthropic (the text of one request, only if you turned AI on). Apple converts speech to text as described above. No one else. We do not sell consumer health data.
- Consent: we collect it only after your separate consent, as described in Sensitive information, and we will ask again before sharing it for any other purpose.
- Your rights: you can confirm whether we collect your consumer health data, see it, get the list of everyone we shared it with, withdraw consent and have it deleted, as described in Your privacy rights. Deleting your account deletes it everywhere we store it.
Our website
This policy also covers our website, momentideapp.com. The website is separate from the app: what you do on the website is not linked to your Momentide account, and the app does not use Google Analytics.
- Hosting: the website is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (USA). Like any web server, it receives your IP address, browser type and the page you ask for, and keeps these logs for a short period for security and reliability.
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC (USA), to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found us, for example from a search engine. It uses first-party cookies (names starting with
_ga) and receives information about your device, browser and the pages you view. Google uses your IP address to estimate your general location (such as city) and does not keep it in our reports. We turned off Google signals and ad personalization, we don't use this data for advertising, and our reports are kept for 14 months. - Your choice: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, Google Analytics is not loaded at all. You can also turn it off for this browser below, block cookies in your browser settings, or use Google's opt-out add-on.
- This is "internet or other electronic network activity" information under California law. We do not sell or share it.
Website analytics are on for this browser.
Children
Momentide is only for people aged 13 and older (14 and older in Canada), and the app asks for your birth month and year before you create an account. Your answer stays on your phone; we never store your birth date. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (under 14 in Canada). If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit. Every database table is protected so that an account can only read its own rows, recordings sit in a private storage area, sign-in tokens are kept in the iOS Keychain, and service keys are held only on our servers, never in the app. Only the developer has administrative access. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password if you sign in with email. If a breach creates a real risk of harm to you, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If a change is significant, for example a new provider receiving your content or a new use of sensitive information, we will tell you in the app and ask for your consent where the law requires it before it applies.
